BAC Water for Peptides
Section titled “BAC Water for Peptides”Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilized peptides. This guide covers composition, selection criteria, storage requirements, and best practices.
Composition

Why BAC Water

- Bacteriostatic activity: Inhibits bacterial growth after multi-dose vial access
- Extended shelf life: Opened vials remain usable for 28 days

Selection Criteria

Reconstitution Protocol

Section titled “Step-by-Step”- Allow BAC water to reach room temperature (5–10 minutes)
- Clean vial stopper with 70% isopropyl alcohol swab
- Draw appropriate volume into syringe
- Inject slowly down the vial wall — never directly onto lyophilized cake
- Gently swirl until dissolved (do not shake)
- Inspect solution — must be clear and colorless
- Label reconstituted vial with peptide name, concentration, date, and expiration

Frequently Asked Questions
Section titled “Frequently Asked Questions”Can I use expired BAC water?
Section titled “Can I use expired BAC water?”No. Expired bacteriostatic water may have reduced preservative efficacy and should not be used for peptide reconstitution.
Can I freeze BAC water?
Section titled “Can I freeze BAC water?”No. Freezing may compromise the preservative and physical properties. Store at room temperature (unopened) or 2–8°C (opened).
How long does reconstituted peptide last?
Section titled “How long does reconstituted peptide last?”Most peptides reconstituted with BAC water are stable for 30 days at 2–8°C. Sermorelin is an exception — use within 48 hours.
Can I mix BAC water and normal saline?
Section titled “Can I mix BAC water and normal saline?”Not recommended unless specifically directed by a protocol. Mixing may alter pH and osmolarity.
